Gerhard Berger at the ADAC GT Masters: Gerhard Berger paid a flying visit to the only ADAC GT Masters event in Austria. The former Formula 1 driver was at the Red Bull Ring on Saturday and Sunday and watched keenly as his nephew Lucas Auer secured a victory in the ATS Formel-3-Cup.
Press brunch with Frentzen and Schumacher: Friday morning’s ‘press brunch’ where Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Cora Schumacher, wife of Mercedes-Benz DTM driver Ralf Schumacher, plus local media representatives sat down together to eat was just the ticket to get the ADAC Masters Weekend underway. The former Formula One world vice champion runner-up and Cora Schumacher, who competed in the MINI TROPHY series in Austria were much in demand by TV crews and journalists, as were a number of Austrians, namely Gottfried Grasser, Hari Proczyk, Philipp Eng and Martin Ragginger.
Hannawald making comeback plans: Ski jumping legend Sven Hannawald was also in attendance at the Red Bull Ring. Sven competed in a Corvette in 2011 but has decided to undertake some further training during the 2012 season. He is preparing his racing comeback with the support of former DTM driver Mathias Lauda. Hannawald talked about his comeback plans in the League of Super Sports Cars for the 2013 season at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
Party atmosphere at Red Bull Ring: Reiter Engineering and their sponsor InteNetX got the second half of the ADAC GT Masters season off to a jolly start with a knees-up in the paddock. InterNetX – Reiter Engineering invited all the teams and drivers to join them for their ‘Made in Bavaria’ themed party on Saturday evening with live music.
Show run gets fans in the mood for ADAC Masters Weekend: Local motorsport fans were given a pre-race treat on the Wednesday before the main action at the Red Bull Ring when the ADAC organised a preview at the Arena am Waldfeld shopping centre in Fohnsdorf. More than 500 motor racing enthusiasts turned up to watch demo laps by a BMW Alpina B6, an Aston Martin V12 Vantage, a McLaren MP4-12C and a Lamborghini Gallardo. But first of all, the Stuck brothers (Ferdinand and Johannes), the McLaren duo of Philipp Eng and Christian Ott, ALPINA driver Maxime Martin and local favourite Gottfried Grasser chatted to the fans and signed autographs.
ADAC GT Masters on TV: All 16 races of the ADAC GT Masters are broadcast live at 12.15pm on Saturdays and Sundays in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on free-to-air TV channel kabel eins. Sports channel SPORT1 will feature highlights of the ADAC GT Masters from the Red Bull Ring in the ADAC Masters Weekend Magazine on 18th August at 12.15pm. In addition, live timing from all practice sessions and races to complement the live TV broadcasts can be found at www.adac masters.de-gt.
