- DTM championship leader to line up at the Red Bull Ring
- Auer will drive BWT Mücke Motorsport's Mercedes-AMG GT3
- SPORT1 will broadcast both races live
Munich: He is the DTM's shooting star. Lucas Auer (22, A) currently heads the standings after taking two wins from four races. However, the Mercedes driver's next outing will be in the ADAC GT Masters when he makes his Super Sports Car League debut for BWT Mücke Motorsport at the Red Bull Ring (June 9th - 11th). SPORT1 will broadcast the ADAC GT Masters' fifth and sixth race of the season live and in full.
Auer: "I'm really looking forward to the weekend, but I've only ever tested the Mercedes-AMG GT3 once at the Lausitzring. I've never raced a GT3 sports car before, so I'm really looking forward to finding out what it drives like." The Austrian is quite taken with the ADAC GT Masters: "I've become more and more interested in the series in recent months. I've got a terrific amount of respect for the field of entrants. They're first-rate."
Auer will line up at the Red Bull Ring in car #26 prepared by BWT Mücke Motorsport, a team, with whom the Austrian is very familiar: "It's always nice to work with Peter Mücke's team. I've already driven for the outfit in Formula 3 where I learned a lot. I secured my maiden win in the DTM with them at the Lausitzring in 2016."
Auer doesn't expect to have any problems making the switch from the DTM car to the beefy GT3 sports car: "Both vehicles have their special characteristics. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 drives quite differently to the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM, but as a racing driver, you have to be able to switch between different vehicles."
The Red Bull Ring is the ideal place for Auer to debut in the ADAC GT Masters. Auer: "As an Austrian, it's always great to compete in Austria. I really like the circuit. It's amazing what they've done with it. I've never had much luck racing there so far, unfortunately, but let's see how things go in the GT sports car!"
Sebastian Asch (30, DEU) will be his team-mate at BWT Mücke Motorsport in Spielberg. He too is really looking forward to the weekend in Austria: "Having Lucas as a team-mate is going to be mega. It says a lot for the ADAC GT Masters that it can attract the leader in the DTM standings to come and race in the series. I hope we can score two lots of decent points at the Red Bull Ring."
