Philip Geipel and Rahel Frey will team up for third consecutive year
Munich: A new Audi R8 and a well-proven driver pairing – YACO Racing will line up in the ADAC GT Masters with a new Audi and an unchanged driver combo, consisting of former DTM driver Rahel Frey (30, CH) and Philip Geipel (29, DEU). The team from Saxony will start their fifth season in the ADAC GT Masters with the wind in their sails after YACO achieved their maiden win in the Super Sports Car League last October before heading off on the winter break. The ADAC GT Masters will get the 2016 season under way on the weekend of April 15th-17th at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.
YACO Racing have been an integral part of the ADAC GT Masters since 2012. Philip Geipel, son of team principal Uwe Geipel, has been a member of the squad of drivers from the outset. The Plauen-based team got their first experience of the series with a Chevrolet Camaro in their debut season before switching to an Audi R8 in 2013. Geipel shared the cockpit with ex-DTM driver Rahel Frey in 2014 and 2015. The team secured their greatest success to date in the ADAC GT Masters with a win in the first race at the 2015 season finale in Hockenheim.
YACO Racing will field a new Audi R8 in 2016 – a very special one. Uwe Geipel took delivery of the 50th model of the second generation of the supercar to come off the production line at Audi's factory in Neckarsulm. "We've been with Audi since 2013," said Geipel. "Our sporting development is the reward for all our efforts. We clinched our maiden win in last year's finale at the Hockenheimring. We are very proud to be lining up for the 2016 season with the 50th model of Audi's latest GT3 racing car, and we're aiming to notch up further successes."
Official ADAC GT Masters pre-season testing which takes place April 4th-6th in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben will show whether the German-Swiss squad of drivers consisting of Geipel/Frey can repeat their success from the second half of the previous season. "We'll be taking the new car out for the first time in Oschersleben," said Philip Geipel. "Most of the other teams have had longer to prepare. Nevertheless, we're still walking on air after the 2015 season finale and hope to surprise everyone again in 2016." Team-mate Rahel Frey added. "This is going to be a very exciting season with a strong field of drivers. I'm pleased to be tackling my third year with YACO Racing. We have an excellent team now. Not just the drivers but the mechanics and engineers as well. We'll see where we stand in the tests at Oschersleben. "
