Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Marc Márquez made history again with his tenth MotoGP victory at the Sachsenring: he has now drawn level with Italian legend Giacomo Agostini as the joint record holder for the number of wins in the top class at a single racetrack. There was no stopping the rider from the Ducati Lenovo Team over the course of 30 laps of the iconic circuit in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, as he dominated the race from start to finish. When his brother Álex (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) from second place on lap nine, it left the way free for Marc's latest success. In total, a new record of 261,831 spectators flocked to the Sachsenring for the MotoGP weekend.
The reigning world champion crossed the finish line 1.996 seconds ahead of Japan's Ai Ogura from the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team. His Spanish team-mate Raúl Fernández joined them on the podium in third place, followed by his two compatriots Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Jorge Martín (Aprilia Racing). The latter leaves the Sachsenring as the championship leader and heads into the four-week summer break with 208 points to his name. Ogura is second in the overall standings with 194 points, ahead of Marc Márquez on 190.
"I am overjoyed! It has been a special weekend. I was fully focussed, because, as I mentioned on Thursday: If I was still to have a chance of winning the title, then I had to go on the attack here. And that is precisely what I did. The fact is, that we have to strike when we are feeling strong. I am really extremely happy to have now won ten times here at the Sachsenring. That is a special number. Thank you to all the fans," said Márquez.
Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP narrowly misses out on the podium in Moto2
There was a Spanish one-two-three in the middle class: Iván Ortolá (QJMOTOR – R.O.M.E.A – MSI) came out on top in a last-lap battle with Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Azul Marino Aspar Team) and took the chequered flag with a lead of just 0.614 seconds. This was the second Moto2 victory for Ortolá. Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) followed in third place. The riders from German team Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP narrowly missed out on the podium: Australian Senna Agius was fourth, with Manuel González from Spain finishing sixth.
"I felt pretty comfortable at the start, because I had the race under control. There was a group, but I was coping well with the pace. However, towards the end of the race it shifted from controlled riding to riding at the limit. Dani put me under a lot of pressure, but I knew that I was stronger in certain areas. I am pleased with my second Moto2 victory," said Ortolá. In the world championship, González continues to hold a big lead of over 50 points at the top of the standings. He currently has 195.5 points to his name, with his closest rivals Guevara on 144 and Agius on 136 points.
In Moto3, Brian Uriarte (Red Bull KTM Ajo) claimed his second Grand Prix victory. After a thrilling battle with Máximo Quiles (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team), Uriarte ultimately had his nose in front by just 0.063 seconds. The two Spaniards were in a league of their own in the smallest class, and pulled clear of the rest of the pack around the halfway point of the race. Italian Matteo Bertelle (LEVEL UP - MTA) grabbed the third spot on the podium. He left Argentinean Marco Morelli (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) and Finland's Rico Salmela (Red Bull KTM Tech3) in his wake in a sprint to the finish. Austrian Leo Rammerstorfer (SIC58 Squadra Corse), the only German-speaking rider in the world championship, just missed out on the points in 16th place. Quiles leads the overall standings unchallenged on 231 points. He is followed by Uriarte with 127 points and Spaniard Álvaro Carpe (Red Bull KTM Ajo/126), who finished eleventh in the Sachsenring race.
