Hohenstein-Ernstthal. For the stars of MotoGP, the Sachsenring is the only world championship venue in Germany. For young riders from across the region, it is the biggest home event of the year. When the Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany comes to Hohenstein-Ernstthal from 10th to 12th July, many talented youngsters on the support programme will take the opportunity, against an international backdrop, to show they have what it takes to take the next step in their careers.
Several motorcycle hopefuls from Saxony line up in the Moto4 Northern Cup, which is organised by the ADAC and MotoGP. They include Danny Hinkelmann from Königsfeld, Jason Rudolph from St. Egidien, and Smilla Göttlich from Eibau. Robin Siegert is on a great run: the 15-year-old from Pockau-Lengefeld, less than an hour from the German round of MotoGP, is really making his mark on the ADAC's talent factory this year. The young rider, who is supported by Motorsport Team Germany, has won the last six races in a row and established a comfortable lead over the chasing pack. "The atmosphere at the Sachsenring is unique. Last year, I made it onto the podium twice on the MotoGP platform, and actually won the second race. That was really special. The Sachsenring seems to suit me," said Siegert.
His greatest rival also comes from the free state: Anina Urlaß from Hohndorf bei Stollberg also has a race win to her name this year. Thias Wenzel from Hermannsburg in Lower Saxony is the third German hope in the top three of the overall standings. He too has tasted victory in this year's Moto4 Northern Cup. This trio ended last year's Northern Talent Cup in positions two to four, and is now battling it out to succeed champion Fynn Kratochwil. Completing the German contingent are Stuttgart's Tudor Dedea and Louis Wolff from Achberg near Lake Constance.
15-year-old Kratochwil from Thüringen has backed up his title win with an impressive debut season in the highly-competitive Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Former champions of this junior series include MotoGP world champion Jorge Martín from Spain, his compatriot Pedro Acosta, and Frenchman Johann Zarco. Kratochwil ended his first race in Jerez in eighth place. He then emphatically announced his arrival in the series in Mugello, Italy, where he finished third and second. After eight of 14 races, the Motorsport Team Germany rider currently lies in the top ten and is looking to score more points with a big performance in front of a home crowd at the Sachsenring. "My full focus is on the Sachsenring. I will do everything I can to make my family, friends, all the German fans, and my sponsors proud at my home Grand Prix," promised the young man from Mühlhausen.
