Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The festival of motor racing at the Sachsenring will continue: the ADAC has secured the long-term future of the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix of Germany. The only MotoGP race in Germany will be taking place at the Sachsenring near Chemnitz until at least 2031. MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports and the ADAC agreed on an early extension of their successful cooperation at this year’s Sachsenring Grand Prix weekend.
This ensures that nothing will stand in the way of the party planned for the Sachsenring in conjunction with MotoGP: in 2027, the popular circuit near Chemnitz will celebrate its 100th birthday. More than 250,000 fans attended the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix of Germany this year – the race has been one of the largest single-sport events in Germany for many years.
“MotoGP at the Sachsenring is the most significant national motor racing event, attracting more than a quarter of a million fans. We aim to continue this success story and have reached early agreement with Dorna Sports to ensure that the Grand Prix will take place at the Sachsenring in the long term. The event is enormously popular throughout the region. We will be able to continue to stage the Grand Prix in Saxony thanks to the excellent cooperation with Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and the state government of Saxony,” says ADAC Sport President Dr. Gerd Ennser.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports: “We’re delighted to announce we’ll be racing in Germany until 2031. It’s an important market for MotoGP and a fantastic event for the quarter of a million fans who join us at the Sachsenring to break records year-on-year. We’re looking forward to setting more benchmarks together with the promoter, the ADAC, and want to thank them and the Government of Saxony for their commitment to MotoGP. We must also thank the fans for making it such an incredible event.”
Prime Minister of Saxony Michael Kretschmer emphasised: “Saxony is motor racing country. We support the Sachsenring because we want to support the Southwest Saxony region, and because we love motorsport. It is fantastic to hear the news that we will be able to watch the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring until at least 2031. We have a long history of motor racing in this region. In 2027, we will celebrate our 100-year anniversary at the Sachsenring. The new record attendance at the weekend showed once again how much we love motor racing in Saxony. It also reveals that the allure of this important race and the Sachsenring reaches far beyond Saxony. I would like to thank everyone involved in securing the future of the Motorcycle Grand Prix here in the Free State of Saxony, helping to drive and strengthen motor racing in Germany as a whole.”
The Motorrad Grand Prix of Germany has taken place at the new Sachsenring since 1998. The race on the MotoGP calendar attracts some of the largest spectator numbers seen at any event around the world. Next year’s Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix of Germany will take place from 10th to 12th July. Tickets are available at
