Fans, favourites and anticipation: The stage is set for MotoGP in Germany

  • Marc Márquez is hungry for his twelfth win at the Sachsenring
  • Fabio Quartararo is hoping to fly round the iconic German circuit
  • Big crowds for the BplusL Charity Run and the Pit Walk

Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The 2025 Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany is up and running: the successful BplusL Charity Run on Wednesday evening and the traditional press conference on Thursday afternoon opened the German round of the world championship at the Sachsenring. With attention now turning to the racing, the big question is: who can challenge the long-time “King of the Ring” Marc Márquez.

The eight-time world champion from Spain won the German motorcycle Grand Prix eleven times in a row between 2010 and 2021, and has this season been unbeaten for the past three race weekends: the 32-year-old Ducati factory rider won both the Saturday sprint and the Grand Prix on the Sunday at the Aragon, Italian and Dutch Grands Prix.

Marc Márquez: Points are the priority
“The expectations are high every year when we come to the Sachsenring,” said Márquez on Thursday. “I will do my best and hope to challenge for the win. At the same time, I first have to get a feel for the track conditions and take a look at the weather forecast. The most important thing is to score points towards the championship.”

His closest rival in the race for the world title is Marc’s brother Álex. The 29-year-old injured his hand in a crash in Assen two weeks ago, but underwent a medical examination on Thursday and was given the green light to take part in free practice on Friday morning. “I feel ready for the weekend,” said the younger of the Márquez brothers. “My goal is first to attend free practice and to see how I am doing and how my body reacts to the stresses and strains.”

Italian Marco Bezzecchi has been in fine form at the recent Grands Prix. The Aprilia factory rider won in Silverstone and finished runner-up at the Dutch TT in Assen. “It is always tough to make any predictions before the race weekend. We had a good race last time out in Assen, where we were competitive. The goal is to continue this way,” says the 26-year-old, looking ahead. “I always like riding at the Sachsenring. Last year, I had a few issues here, but the atmosphere among us is totally different now.”

Former world champion Fabio Quartararo from France, winner of the 2022 Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix, has this year been particularly strong on his Yamaha M1 on a flying lap in qualifying. The 26-year-old has four pole positions to his name in 2025, and is looking to show his speed again at the Sachsenring. “It is super important to start from the front row of the grid,” says Quartararo, knowingly. “However, our main problem is consistency in the race. I will do my best to be fast in qualifying. We want to be more consistent compared to the other manufacturers, and have room for improvement in that regard.”

MotoGP fans run for a good cause
The first sporting action of the week was on Wednesday evening: the comprehensive event programme at the Sachsenring kicked off with the BplusL Charity Run, which raised an impressive € 24,000. The Run started at the popular campsite on the legendary Ankerberg on Wednesday. Countless motorcycle enthusiasts pitch their tents here for four days and transform the site into an unrivalled party area. The popular Pit Walk on Thursday afternoon was also completely sold out. For 90 minutes, MotoGP fans had the opportunity to observe their heroes at work, whilst at the same time seeking out selfies and autographs.

Moto3 opens the on-track programme
The action at the 3.7-kilometre Sachsenring begins on Friday with the first free practice for the Moto3 class at 09:00. Two practices are scheduled for all the classes in the world championship, as well as the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and the Northern Talent Cup. The two junior series will also hold their qualifying sessions on the Friday evening.

There is also plenty on offer away from the track on Friday: the Red Bull Racing Circus in Paddock 3 opens its doors in the morning. In the evening, the Kart Hall will be transformed into a large party area with DJ Newtronic and the band Rockpirat, presented by MDR Sachsen.

Remaining tickets for the Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany start at € 39 and are available online at adac.de/motogp, by phone on 03723/8099111, or by E-mail to info@sachsenring-event.de. Access to standing areas is free for under 14s when accompanied by a paying adult. New this year: for just € 5 the child ticket makes a nice souvenir and comes with an emergency contact function.
