Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Strong support for young riders at the Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany at the Sachsenring: the Ministry of the Interior of the Free State of Saxony has earmarked € 100,000 to help stage junior racing as part of the Motorcycle Grand Prix. Saxony’s Minister-President Michael Kretschmer announced the funding during last weekend’s Grand Prix. A record crowd of more than 250,000 visitors not only witnessed the MotoGP aces at the weekend, but also the talented juniors in the Northern Talent Cup.
Gifted youngsters from various countries in Northern Europe go head to head in the Northern Talent Cup, which was initiated by the ADAC and MotoGP promoter Dorna Sports. The race at the Sachsenring, which features on the MotoGP support programme, is one of the highlights of the season. The series forms part of Dorna’s “Road to MotoGP” programme, the goal of which is to get talented young riders into the world championship.
Michael Kretschmer: “The Sachsenring is an iconic racetrack and very important to the Free State of Saxony. The motorcycle races that take place here allow us to welcome international guests to Saxony, and to show them what a diverse and great place to live the Free State is. By supporting the junior racing series, we are also inspiring young people with regard to motorsport and Saxony as a sporting state.”
“As one of the biggest individual sporting events in Germany, the Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany is a beacon for youth. Appearing in the Northern Talent Cup on the world championship stage serves as a great motivation for the talented youngsters, who can show what they are made of in front of the team principals in the world championship. We are pleased that the Saxon Ministry of the Interior is making a valuable contribution to supporting young racers and sport at the Sachsenring,” says ADAC Sport President Dr. Gerd Ennser.
As well as the talents in the Northern Talent Cup, young riders in the FIM MiniGP Germany series were also given a taste of the Grand Prix at the Sachsenring. The riders from the series, which was launched last year, familiarised themselves with world championship processes in the paddock and met Moto2 rider and MiniGP Germany ambassador Barry Baltus. A highlight for the young motorcycle racers was taking part in the rider presentation in the Kart Hall, in front of several thousand visitors on the Saturday evening.
