MotoGP at the Sachsenring: Ten tips for a weekend packed with highlights

Munich. It’s race week at the Sachsenring! The charity run around the undulating 3.7-kilometre track on Wednesday evening kicks off the diverse programme at the Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany (5th to 7th July). The only German round of the MotoGP World Championship boasts a whole host of attractions, as the iconic circuit in Hohenstein-Ernstthal is transformed into a festival of motorsport. Here are ten highlights that fans of the pinnacle of motorcycle racing should definitely not miss:

MotoGP stars up close and personal
This year, for the first time, there will also be a MotoGP Hero Walk for Moto2 and Moto3 riders. The MotoGP stars of tomorrow will be available for selfies and autographs in the Kart Hall before qualifying on Saturday morning. The Hero Walk for the MotoGP riders is at the same place on Sunday morning and is a great opportunity for photos and autographs.

Big view
The Dekra Big Wheel made its debut at the Sachsenring last year, and was immediately a popular meeting point. This year, the imposing ride is again located next to the Kart Hall and offers a great view of the event site.

Rider presentation in the Kart Hall
The rider presentation is one of the absolute highlights of the entertaining fringe programme at the Sachsenring, and takes place at 19:00 on Saturday evening as usual. The fans will be royally entertained in the Kart Hall on both Friday and Saturday, when DJs and live bands whip up the atmosphere on both evenings.

Vintage motorcycle exhibition
Fans of historic motorcycle racing are in for a real treat at the Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany. Located opposite paddock 2 from Friday to Sunday is an exhibition with a very unique flair – for example, it impressively presents the technical development of the racing bike. Visitors are taken on a journey through the history of motorcycle racing.

The stars of tomorrow
As well as the MotoGP stars, talented youngsters also line up in the ADAC-supported Northern Talent Cup at the Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany. Of the six young German riders in the series, three currently find themselves in the top ten in the overall standings: Richard Irmscher is third, Thias Wenzel eighth, and Dustin Schneider tenth. The highlight of the year awaits the youngsters at the Sachsenring: two races on the world championship platform.

Red Bull racing circus
The Red Bull racing circus promises to put on a spectacular show in paddock 3. From Friday to Sunday, it will serve up a feast of motorsport. Visitors can also look forward to a Hall of Fame, stung shows, an exhibition of successful Red Bull motorbikes and race cars, and autograph sessions. The Red Bull racing circus is open from 10:00 to 19:00 on Friday, from 09:00 to 19:00 on Saturday, and from 09:00 to 15:00 on Sunday.

The Sachsenring from all angles
At just 3.67 kilometres, the Sachsenring may be the shortest track on the calendar, but its topographical features mean it offers many great views. A walk through the various spectator areas becomes a very special racetrack expedition, offering fans a plethora of different perspectives of the Sachsenring. New this year: the pit lane rooftop ticket allows fans to follow the action in the pit lane from above.

Public viewing
Fans will not only enjoy top-class motorsport at the Sachsenring, but also the European Football Championship. Germany plays Spain in the quarter-finals at 18:00 on Friday evening. All visitors to the MotoGP event can watch the match live at the circuit. The game will be shown on two big screens in the Kart Hall and in the Kart Hall forecourt.

Party at Ankerberg
Ankerberg, in close proximity to the Sachsenring, is transformed into a party mile during the Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany. This is the place for camping and party fans. A visit to the Ankerberg Festival is an absolute must for visitors to the Sachsenring. Over the course of the weekend, fans party into the night to the sound of DJs and live bands.

Visit the fan mile on Goldbachstraße
Goldbachstraße is something of a Mecca for motorsport fans at the weekend. This is the beating heart of the Liqui Moly Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany. Fans can find everything they need regarding their stars at the many stands on the fan mile: from scarfs, jackets, T-shirts and caps to books and flags. There are also plenty of culinary delicacies to enjoy at the various grill and food stalls.
