Munich. Even more racing action in the top class. From the next season onwards, all MotoGP race weekends will feature sprint races in the top class in addition to the Grand Prix. The sprint races will start on Saturday and run over half of a Grand Prix distance. The fans at the LIQUI MOLY Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany 2023 will also benefit from this as they will be able to experience MotoGP races on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets for the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring in the summer of next year are already on sale.
The new race format will be introduced from the 2023 season onwards. Not only the Saturday will then be upgraded with an additional race, but the Friday as well when two free practice sessions will decide who makes it into the qualifying. The new sprint race will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. and run over about half of the race distance of the Sunday Grand Prix. The same competition rules will apply. Additional championship points will be awarded to the drivers, with the top nine receiving between twelve and one point depending on their position. From the 2023 season onwards, a standardised schedule during the Grands Prix will moreover ensure greater excitement on the race day: the Moto3 riders will start first, followed by Moto2. After that, the MotoGP will start as the highlight of the day.
In addition, the top class will see a new brand: for the first time, GASGAS and Tech3 will next season be chasing for points in the MotoGP as the GASGAS Factory Racing Team. Pol Espargaro has already been confirmed as a rider. It remains to be seen who the Spaniard’s team mate will be.
