- “King of the Ring” recovering after shoulder operation
- Fans look forward to seeing Moto2 rider Marcel Schrötter
- Many upcoming young Germans in action
Hohenstein-Ernstthal. German MotoGP fans can look forward to a second local favourite at the 2022 LIQUI MOLY Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany: Stefan Bradl will line up in the top class at the German round of the world championship, which takes place at the Sachsenring from 17th to 19th June. The man from Zahling will stand in for eight-time world champion Marc Marquez in the Honda factory team. The “King of the Ring” is currently at home in Spain, where he is recovering from another operation on his injured right shoulder. This latest recovery period denies Marquez the opportunity to extend his run of eleven wins in a row at the LIQUI MOLY Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany.
In the Moto2 class, fans at the Sachsenring will be cheering on Marcel Schrötter. The German starts for the LIQUI MOLY IntactGP team and is looking to repeat his success from 2019, when he made it onto the podium at the Sachsenring. Schrötter has already finished in the top five on four occasions this year and lies seventh in the overall standings after nine races.
As well as local favourites Bradl and Schrötter, German fans will also be able to show their support for a number of other homegrown riders in the support series. They don’t come much more local than Freddie Heinrich in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. The 17-year-old lives just 30 minutes from the Sachsenring in Lunzenau and has already been in the points in the 2022 season. No fewer than seven young Germans start in the Northern Talent Cup: Valentino Herrlich, Julius Coenen, Dustin Schneider, Julius Caesar Rörig, Phil Urlass, Noel Willemsen and Korbinian Brandl.
The race weekend is also a home event for the PrüstelGP team, which is based just round the corner from the Sachsenring in Oberlungwitz. Florian Prüstel’s team is an official CFMoto factory team and lines up in Moto3 with Spanish riders Carlos Tatay and Xavier Artigas.
