  • Shakedown: Latvala sets fastest time in shakedown
  • VIPs attend ADAC Rallye Deutschland
  • Spectacular show programme at the Arena Panzerplatte

Munich/Trier, 21 August 2014 – Volkswagen driver Jari-Matti Latvala marked the fastest time in the shakedown, the final test prior to the start of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. At the 4.4 kilometres long track near Konz, Finnish driver Latvala set a fastest time of 2:20.8 minutes and ranked ahead of his team-mate, reigning world champion Sébastien Ogier (2:21.3 min.) and Andreas Mikkelsen (2:21.9 min.), also driving for Volkswagen. Citroën driver Kris Meeke (2:22.5 min.) and Hyundai’s Dani Sordo (2:23.0 min.) followed in fourth and fifth place. Thierry Neuville, who finished second last year, had bad luck. The Belgian came off the road and barrel-rolled his car. He and co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul escaped unscathed. The team tries to repair the damaged World Rally Car for the start on Friday morning.

Ceremonial start at Porta Nigra

The Porta Nigra in Trier, featuring on the UNO World Heritage list, again serves as the beautiful backdrop for the ceremonial start of the 2014 ADAC Rallye Deutschland on Thursday evening. Prior to the start, fans have the opportunity to obtain autographs from the international rally stars at the Hauptmarkt from 19.00 till 19.30hrs. From 20.30hrs, all teams will be driving off the start podium with their rally cars. A special highlight for this evening will be the illumination of Porta Nigra.

Rally legends at the legendary Panzerplatte

The ADAC Rallye Deutschland does not only attract fans to Trier and its surroundings, but also provides unique historic moments: motorsport heroes such as Jacky Ickx, Stig Blomqvist, Hannu Mikkola, Michèle Mouton, Ari Vatanen, Juha Kankkunen, Per Eklund, Timo Salonen, Armin Schwarz, Harald Demuth, Kalle Grundel, Dieter Depping and Klaus Fritzinger will all be attending the German round of the FIA World Rally Championship. These legends also will be bringing along original rally cars from the past, such as the Audi S1, in which they will present themselves to the fans during a rolling autograph session at the Arena Panzerplatte in Baumholder on Saturday (23 August, 2014, 13.00 till 14.00hrs).

Red Bull FMX Show: spectacular action on two wheels at the Arena Panzerplatte

The Red Bull FMX Show will provide another highlight for the rally fans at the Panzerplatte. Not just with four wheels, but with two wheels as well. With this spectacular Freestyle Motocross Show (FMX), ADAC partner Red Bull ensures that there is plenty of entertainment at top level in between the special stages at the Arena Panzerplatte as well. From 14.00 till 14.30hrs, spectactors get to see breath-taking motorcycle tricks presented by three of the best FMX athletes. Taking part: Czech rider Petr Pilát, one of the greats of his sport, also because of his height of 1.90 m; Austrian Gerhard Mayr, who already caught the attention with his stunts in the finale of TV show ‘Das Supertalent’, as well as FMX talent Luc Ackermann, only 16 years old, who became the first German to complete a flair (540 degrees jump) on the quarterpipe. At the Arena Panzerplatte, the three riders will jump into the air with their FMX machines from a mobile ramp and show various jumps of well over 20 metres. A range of trains, in which all three riders jump off the ramp at very short intervals, will mark the grand finale of the Red Bull FMX Show.

VIPs at the home event in Trier

At this ADAC Rallye Deutschland, Volkswagen Motorsport welcomes various prominent personalities once again: stratosphere jumper Felix Baumgartner, rock music legend Peter Maffay, world windsurfing champion Philip Köster, former world swimming champion Mark Warnecke, actor Axel Stein and Harald ‘Toni’ Schumacher, the former goal-keeper of the German national football team, will all be on site to watch the thrilling rally action around Trier.
