Facts & figures about the 2017 ADAC Rallye Deutschland

  • Interesting information about the German event in the FIA WRC

Munich. There are only a few more days to go before the 2017 ADAC Rallye Deutschland kicks off. Between 17 and 20 August, defending Champion Sébastien Ogier, WRC leader Thierry Neuville and tarmac expert Dani Sordo will be racing against the clock near the lakeshores of Bostalsee. However, the rally drivers' performance is not the only thing that is measured with utmost accuracy at the German FIA WRC event. Here are some interesting facts and figures about what is going on behind the scenes of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland:

28,890,000 viewers world-wide followed the 2016 ADAC Rallye Deutschland on TV. Footage of this year's event will go out again to the world from the Saarland and neighbouring regions on TV and through live streaming on WRCplus.com. 65 TV stations will provide exciting video footage of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland in 155 countries. Sport1 and Sport1+ will broadcast the races in Germany in over nine hours of air time - including five and a half hours of live broadcasting.

8,000,000 cubic metres is the amount of water contained in Bostalsee on whose western shores the teams will pitch their tents for the 2017 ADAC Rallye Deutschland. On a total of approx. 150,000 square metres, the new Service Park will hold plenty of fun and excitement in store. As a highlight, the Power Stage on Sunday (20 August) will end directly at the Service Park for the first time and segue into the official podium ceremony of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland.

1,165,250 metres is the total length of the itinerary at this year's ADAC Rallye Deutschland. The 21 Special Stages have a combined length of 309,170 metres. The road sections add up to 856,080 metres.

350,000 metres of tape will be unrolled by the volunteers to cordon off the track of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. Another 45 kilometres of plastic fencing and some 16 kilometres of metal fencing will ensure that the spectators flocking to the ADAC Rallye Deutschland from all over the world are always on the safe side.

6,500 rubbish bags - as well as many other measures - will contribute to the environmental protection in evidence at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. The clear aim is to leave nature as intact after the event as before. In pursuing this aim, ADAC has once again stepped up its commitment which ranges from new environmental audits to a larger team of environmental experts to several pilot projects for enhanced sustainability.

2,313 tyres will be delivered to the Service Park on the lakeshores of Bostalsee by Michelin, the official ADAC Rallye Deutschland partner. The French tyre manufacturer will need ten trucks to get this amount of high-performance tyres to the Saarland. In addition, they will use a motorhome and another truck. The latter will be converted into a podium in the Service Park. Michelin will transport material with a total weight of 32,000 kilograms to the tenth 2017 WRC event where they will be represented by 21 staff.

93 vehicles will be rolling across Saarbrücken's Tbilisser Platz in front of the State Theatre at the public opening ceremony Thursday night (17 August). 42 crews will compete in the WRC, WRC 2 and WRC 3 categories. Another 26 independent entrants and 25 cockpit crews will be fighting for the title in two races of the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup.

70 euros is the pre-sale price of a rally pass. The pass covers access to all Special Stages on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, to the Shakedown on Thursday as well as to the Service Park on all days. 52 spectator areas will line the circuit at the 2017 ADAC Rallye Deutschland - including the designated areas at the opening stage in Saarbrücken Thursday night (17 August) and at the Baumholder military range (19 August). All spectator areas afford a maximum of safety and prime viewing of the rally action.

40 metres plus or minus x is the distance the rally cars can be seen flying over the famous Gina jump at the Baumholder military range. To put this into perspective: this is the length of a handball court!

40 WRC races ended with Sébastien Ogier taking the top spot on the podium, three of them at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. This makes the four-time World Champion the most successful entrant in this year's German WRC rally.

35 years of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland will be celebrated this year. Erwin Weber/Mathias Berg won the debut rally in 1982 in an Opel/Vauxhall Ascona 400. The most successful crew were Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena with nine victories between 2002 and 2012.

21 Special Stages will challenge the drivers before the champion and runners up in the 2017 ADAC Rallye Deutschland will step onto the podium in the Service Park at Bostalsee on Sunday (20 August), 13:00 hours. The new stages of the itinerary are Saarbrücken, Wadern-Weiskirchen, Römerstraße, Losheim am See and St Wendeler Land.

0 points "separate" the two leaders in the driver standings of the German WRC event. After 13 WRC events, Thierry Neuville (BEL) and World Champion Sébastien Ogier (FRA) are tied at 160 points. Sealing three victories in the 2017 WRC so far, Neuville is one step ahead of Ogier who took first place twice.
