Impressive line-up in the 2017 ADAC Rallye Deutschland

  • No fewer than 93 vehicles on the Special Stages in and around the Saarland region
  • 42 crews in the WRC, WRC 2 and WRC 3 categories, as well as 26 independent entrants
  • Top-class home rally for 16 German drivers
  • 25 ADAC Opel Rallye Cup cockpit crews to compete in two races

Munich. Prospects could not be better for an exciting ADAC Rallye Deutschland. In addition to new challenging stages, there will be a top-class line-up: no fewer than 93 vehicles will tackle the diverse Special Stages in and around the Saarland region from 17 to 20 August 2017.

The entire world elite of the FIA World Rally Championship will be represented in Germany by the teams of Citroën, Ford, Hyundai and Toyota – first and foremost, World Champion Sébastien Ogier (Ford) and his closest competitor in the current season, Thierry Neuville (Hyundai). 13 crews will tackle the ADAC Rallye Deutschland in the P1 top class of World Rally Cars. Each of the Citroën, Hyundai and Toyota works teams will have three vehicles racing for victory. The M-Sport World Rally Team will have four Ford Fiesta WRC 2017 starting at the rally, including one vehicle for Armin Kremer, the only top-class German driver.

For the WRC2 starters, the ADAC Rallye Deutschland will be one of three mandatory events in 2017. Pontus Tidemand and Jan Kopecky (both Škoda) will be racing in the Saarland as will the Ford drivers Teemu Suninen, Eric Camilli and Mads Østberg. Marijan Griebel, a young German rally talent, will compete with the top P2 drivers at the German WRC rally. The local hero and ADAC sport foundation grantee will make his WRC2 debut at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland in a Škoda Fabia R5. No fewer than 19 WRC2 drivers have submitted their entries to the German WRC rally.

There will be eight WRC3 teams, including Julius Tannert, who is another German ADAC Stiftung Sport grantee. Moreover, Tannert is one of six drivers hoping to score points for the FIA Junior World Rally Championship at the event. 26 independent drivers complete the list of WRC, WRC2 and WRC3 entrants.

In addition to Kremer, Griebel and Tannert, another 13 German drivers will take the opportunity to present themselves to an international audience at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland – among them current German Rally Champion Fabian Kreim in a Škoda Fabia R5.

As in previous years, two rounds in the 2017 ADAC Opel Rallye Cup will be run at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. The German WRC rally is among the absolute highlights on the calendar of this single-brand cup. A total of 25 OPEL ADAM cockpit crews will participate this year.

All participants in the ADAC Rallye Deutschland will be introduced to the spectators at the public opening ceremony in Saarbrücken Thursday night (17 August). Tbilisser Platz, a square in the heart of Saarbrücken, will become the hub of rally festivities: starting in the afternoon, fans can enjoy live music, interviews and a large rally experience show here. All the WRC stars will sign autographs and pose for selfies with fans in front of the Saarland State Theatre from 18:00 hours. Admission to the opening ceremony is free. The race against the clock will start at 19:10 hours. Right after the drivers’ presentation, the participants will head straight for the first Special Stage – a spectacular city circuit. The narrow course will hold stunning rally action with spectacular drifts in store. Several spectator areas line the circuit – all of them affording prime viewing.
