22.07.2016 - ADAC Rallye Deutschland

The ADAC Rallye Deutschland Saturday: comeback of a SS and action galore on Panzerplatte

  • The ADAC Rallye Deutschland day by day: the Saturday highlights
  • Special Stage Freisen-Westrich back on the itinerary
  • Five Special Stages on the Baumholder military range

Munich/Trier, 22 July 2016 – The ADAC Rallye Deutschland offers spectacular motor sport on each day. The statistics put Saturday, 20 August, clearly in front. Nine Special Stages (SS) covering 148.57km are scheduled. World Champion Sébastien Ogier and his fellow WRC drivers must cover 440km in road sections alone to get to the end of this day. The German FIA WRC rally will start very early on Saturday. The first car will leave the Service Park in Trier at 6:27 hours heading for the hill country of the Saar-Nahe region between the towns of St. Wendel and Idar-Oberstein, where nothing less than the (in)famous Baumholder military range expects the participants. As a stop-over point for the crews, a Tyre Fitting Zone will be set up at St. Wendel in the Saarland. For the fans this means: WRC stars up close.

SS 6 + 11: Freisen-Westrich
On Saturday (20 August), the opener is a 2016 change, which is actually a comeback to the German WRC rally: The last time the Freisen-Westrich Special Stage was on the itinerary of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland was in 2010. This SS situated between the Saarland and the Palatinate consists of 14.73 fast and challenging hill country kilometres. Differences in altitude of over 200m make it feel like a roller coaster with many kinks. Between the Start line at Berschweiler and the Finish line near Freisen, there are five spectator areas including camp and motor home sites. The first pass through the SS Freisen-Westrich will start at 8:15 hours, the second in the afternoon at 15:28 hours.

SS 7 + 12: Bosenberg
The Bosenberg is a 485m hill east of St. Wendel. The homonymous Special Stage takes the participants in the ADAC Rallye Deutschland on wild 14.45km ride along this distinctive landmark. The stage comes with a new initial section in 2016. For the rally drivers, the Bosenberg SS is challenging. The smallest mistake can cost a lot of time on the angled country roads and woodland passages. Four spectator areas were set up for the fans, including Reitscheid on an expansive hillside. Starting at 8:41, the teams will attack the stage for the first time and return one more time at 15:54 in the afternoon.

SS 8 + 9 + 13: Arena Panzerplatte
After the tyre service stop near St. Wendel, the participants in the ADAC Rallye Deutschland will be heading for the Baumholder military range. The action on Panzerplatte has always been among the absolute highlights of the rally. In part, this is owed to the sprint format successfully introduced two years ago. This year it is on the schedule three times. The show starts at 10:17 hours. Only eleven minutes after the first run, the participants will be starting again and this will compound the action since twice as many cars will be on the 2.87km stage. At 17:30 in the afternoon, the WRC drivers will be back to beat the clock once more. From the area’s vantage point, the Panzerplatte Turm (tower), the fans have a view of almost the entire course.

SS 10 + 14: Panzerplatte Lang
The ‘long’ version of the Panzerplatte is almost as long as the Olympic Marathon distance. The 40.80km can make even the fittest of drivers sweat. The supreme stage in the ADAC Rallye Deutschland is an extreme test of the cars and the drivers’ skills and concentration. The tyre-busting concrete slabs are as much a hallmark of this endurance test as are the famous “Hinkelsteins” along the track. The military range is usually closed to the public. So on rally Saturday, thousands of fans will traditionally turn out. One of their favourite spots is beneath the famous Gina jump where they watch the WRC flying circus. At 10:46 hours, the first cars will start on the long Panzerplatte Stage. The afternoon run is scheduled for 17:48 hours. Between the rally stages, an attractive supporting programme will keep the fans in the mood. There will be historic car parades, attractive sweepstakes, numerous promotion stands and captivating rally footage from live cameras project directly on the huge video wall.
