Future of ADAC Rallye Deutschland secured until 2020

  • ADAC e.V. committee takes early decision for future of German WRC round
  • ADAC Saarland e.V. will be responsible for hosting the rally, as of 2017

Munich: The future of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland is secured up to and including 2020. The steering committee of the ADAC e.V. has already agreed at this early juncture to continue staging the German round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) for another four years, thereby securing the event’s long-term future. All 18 ADAC regional clubs are involved in the ADAC Rallye Deutschland with more than 3,000 volunteers, making the ADAC Rallye Deutschland a huge joint motor racing enterprise on the part of the automobile club. The German world championship rally will be staged in the area around Trier this year from August 18th to 21st.

The ADAC Rallye Deutschland has been an integral part of the world championship calendar since 2002, and this year marks the 14th time that it has been staged as a round of the world championship. Last season, some 225,000 spectators attended what is one of Germany’s biggest crowd-pulling sporting events. So as to ensure that the rally remains sustainable and financially sound internationally, the ADAC Rallye Deutschland will be organised under the aegis of the ADAC Saarland e.V. in 2017. This decision was taken by the ADAC Sports Commission which is made up of all the sports directors of the ADAC’s regional clubs.

“The ADAC Rallye Deutschland will continue to deliver world-class rallying in Germany over the coming years. I am pleased that we have secured the event’s future until 2020,” said ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk. “The ADAC Rallye Deutschland is one of the most important events on the German motor racing scene. It is the only one organised by all 18 ADAC regional clubs and many local clubs in unison, giving it a unique place in the ADAC. Over the coming months, ADAC Saarland will now have the task of putting the finishing touches to its sustainable, forward-looking concept which is intended to maintain the characteristics of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland, while setting new highlights with a more efficient route management system.”

The chairman of ADAC Saarland, Karl-Heinz Finkler, is looking forward to his new task: “We will obviously continue to work within the existing framework as much as possible and add to it with our rally experts. We aim to make the ADAC Rallye Deutschland more compact without losing any of its unique character. We are particularly keen on safety and spectator routing and are especially pleased that the Saarland state government has promised full support with organisational matters.”

ADAC Rallye Deutschland info:

The ADAC Rallye Deutschland has a unique reputation worldwide. The mix of narrow stages in the Mosel vineyards, hard terrain on the Baumholder military training ground and fast tarmac roads prove a major challenge for teams and drivers. Skill and versatility are required here. Constant changes, top-class action and the fans’ close proximity also make the German world championship rally really popular with spectators. Each year, this major event attracts an enthusiastic audience from all over Europe, adding a special international spice to the ADAC Rallye Deutschland.
