- A 4.55km foretaste to the German event of the FIA WRC
- Watching the WRC stars warm up is an insider’s tip for rally fans
- Admission is included in the rally pass
Munich/Trier, 14 August 2014 – The rally before the Rallye – putting it this way hits the nail on the head when talking about the Shakedown of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. The mandatory warm-up for the rally drivers is scheduled for Thursday (21 August 2014) between Konz and the municipality of Kommlingen. This will be followed by the official show start of the German event of the FIA World Rally Championship at the Porta Nigra in Trier in the evening.
As we all know, the Konz Shakedown at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland is far more than just a freewheeling warm-up programme. Previous years have left no doubt about it: Sébastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala, Thierry Neuville, Mikko Hirvonen and the other WRC stars are just as highly concentrated taking these training units at full speed as they do on the later Special Stages. The 4.55km section anticipates typical elements of the upcoming 18 Special Stages of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland and gives the teams a good foretaste to the actual event. It’s all there, from fast asphalt sections to the upward and downward slopes of the vineyards with their tight switchbacks and narrow service roads.
Thanks to its high-level sporty characteristics, the Konz Shakedown has become an insider’s tip for fans. Another reason for its increasing popularity: Spectators get ample opportunity to watch the cars - especially the top drivers who have to complete the track more than once according to the Rules and Regulations.
Also, the short distances between the individual spectator areas ensure that fans are treated to rally action in different places all day long without having to move their own cars. The four spectator areas of the Shakedown are Konz (Z1), Wiltinger Kupp (Z2), Arena Kommlingen (Z3), and Spitzkehre Kommlingen/finish(Z4). The Kommlingen Arena is the largest and most popular spectator area: It is staged along both slopes of a small valley very easy to oversee.
This year, the Konz Shakedown will start at 09:30h on Thursday (21 August 2014). The starting order comprises several groups: Until 11:00h, you can watch the so-called priority 1+2 drivers including the WRC stars of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. Between 11:00h and 13:00h, the priority 3 drivers may also hit the course. And finally, between 13:30h and 15:30h, it is the turn of additional WRC participants. The teams of the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup will conclude the Shakedown from 15:30h to 16:30h.
All rally pass holders will have free access to the Konz Shakedown – in addition to the Special Stages and the Service Park in Trier. Alternatively, Shakedown tickets are available on site at €15.00. Rally pass holders will get fast access to the spectator areas, especially during major fan arrival times.
